Reverse Cell Phone Lookup - Is it Really Possible?

by Andy OConnor

It happens to most of us at some time or another. You miss a call on your phone from a cell phone number you don’t recognize.

Curiosity gets the better of you and you’d really like to know who called you, but you’re not too sure about just calling the number in case it’s someone you really don’t want to talk to. A reverse cell phone lookup can often help to solve the problem.

A reverse cell phone lookup is very easy to undertake, & will only take a few minutes. All you need to do is visit a reverse cell phone directory, and enter the full cell phone number that you’re searching for. The directory then does the rest, searching through it’s database until it finds the number you need. Once it’s found the number it will tell you the name, address, possible neighbours, criminal records & more.

The only hard part of doing a reverse cell phone lookup, is deciding which service to use. You may do a search for a free reverse cell phone lookup service on one of the search engines & seemingly come up with hundreds of directories that offer the service for free.

Unlike with landline numbers, an accurate, free reverse cell number search can’t actually be done. The sites advertising as free are either fakes that let you search for free, but then make you pay to see the information, or sites that “decode” cell numbers to help work out the location and carrier (not the accurate information you want).

Information for landline phone numbers is in the public domain so is much easier for almost anyone to access & start a free reverse phone lookup site. Cell phone numbers aren’t though, so all this information needs to be collected manually.

To access accurate details on cell phone numbers, a company needs to invest considerable time and money in obtaining and collating the data. If you think about how long it would take to compile a database containing information on millions of numbers, you’ll understand what I’m talking about!

Not all reverse cell phone lookup services are created equally, with some putting more time and effort into building their databases than others. The bigger the database, the more chance there is they’ll have the number you want. You also need to make sure that you stay away from those directories that try to charge you even when they don’t have the number you want.

Fortunately they aren’t all like this though. There are some very good, reliable reverse cell phone lookup services available for you to use if you just know which ones to go to.
